Victory (so far)

Colorado for Human Rights delivered the needed number of signatures on May 12 to insure (once sufficient signatures are ratified) that their ballot measure protecting all human life is part of the upcoming election in November. I collected about thirty signatures. If you are pro-life, please consider supporting this cause in one way or another. The pro-choice side will likely spend millions to preserve their culture of death.

I hope the measure will make a difference.

Recently I read an editorial that did not want this to pass. One of their reasons was that women could potentially be accused of "false imprisonment" of a child. Ok, so I think that's a bit over the top, but it does raise a point that worries me. While I agree that such a measure is needed to define life, I am worried of the unintended consequences this may bring. The legal ramifications of this will be far-reaching and in ways we might not anticipate. Might all miscarriages be considered crime scenes? Could women be held legally accountable for poor dieting, smoking, etc. State-mandated pre-natal care? Tax code changes to get your child deductions at conception?

I think most of these things can be reasonably worked out, but the lawyers will all get paid well for many years as laws such as this trickle down through the legal system.

Yet, I think it's still worth it. "For whoever is least among you, this one is great." Luke 9:48

The other side will bring up these ridiculous charges to frighten the ignorant. We must work harder with the truth than they do with the lie.

When I was a small child, I remember running around shouting, "Halle! Halle!" since I thought that, "halle" and "loo-yah" were two different words.

When I received the email that we'd collected enough signatures, I couldn't help but think that my childlike response of "HALLE!" seemed very appropriate. Now begins the REAL work of further engaging our friends, family, neighbors and co-workers in honest and intelligent rhetoric on the topic as November approaches. "Halle, Halle!"
